Driving Test

Driving Test Preparation

What to Expect on Test Day

The driving test in Ireland lasts about 30-40 minutes. You’ll drive on a variety of roads around the test centre, and the tester will assess your ability to drive safely and competently.

The test includes:

Technical checks – You’ll be asked questions about the car (show me/tell me questions) like how to check the oil, tyre pressure, or brake lights.

Driving tasks – Normal driving on different road types, dealing with junctions, roundabouts, traffic lights, and other road users.

Manoeuvres – You’ll be asked to do one or two of: turnabout, hill start, reverse around a corner, or parking.

How I Prepare You

In the lessons leading up to your test, we focus specifically on what the testers are looking for:

Observation – Proper use of mirrors, checking blind spots, being aware of your surroundings

Progress – Driving at appropriate speeds, not holding up traffic unnecessarily

Vehicle control – Smooth gear changes, proper use of clutch, steering accuracy

Road positioning – Being in the right lane, correct position at junctions

We’ll also do mock tests so you know exactly what to expect. No surprises.
